Best Spaces: Dining Areas

Happy Friday and happy March everyone!

Welcome to our design blog.

Time for more "Best Spaces"! This week, we are going to focus on the dining room. From breakfast nook to formal dining room, there are a lot of ways to put a dining area together. Don't feel limited by the traditional design of dining rooms. There are so many great ways to enjoy your mealtime in your home! Here's a few designers who have gone above and beyond in styling spaces that work beyond the ordinary.

A multi-functional dining space works well for many families. Providing seating and space for eating in your kitchen gives a comfortable and social vibe. This mostly caters to quick/casual meals versus a more formal dining area.

This style combines a few of our favorite things: white oak, built-ins, and comfortable spaces. This neutral aesthetic can work well in any space.

Breakfast nooks are another great alternative to a formal dining space. These comfortable and intimate corners are often a great option for your space. They require little square footage and can pack a serious design punch.

The perfect location for any dining space is adjacent to the kitchen. It's even better when these spaces are open to each other.

Visual weight is an important design consideration that is easily overlooked. Visual weight refers to the relative size and color of materials compared to the space it's in. A small space feels crowded with chunky, dark furniture. A great way to balance the visual weight in your space is to use a piece with low visual weight like a glass dining table. This lets the other elements in the space shine without drawing attention to itself.

Comfort is key. Whoever said you couldn't use a sofa as seating in your dining space? Not us! Be creative in your finishes and materials.

As I'm sure most of our readers know, the farmhouse style is in and seems to be here to stay. However, it is moving towards a more contemporary and organic expression as seen above. The great texture of the table and bench is offset by black elements and complemented by a more bohemian rug.

Labeling this blog 'Dining Rooms' would have limited our creativity surrounding eating spaces. There's so many ways to enjoy a meal in your home and even more ways to successfully style these spaces. Keep in mind comfort, style, and durability when designing your dining space.

May you all have great meals with great people in a great dining space!

Have a great weekend!
